Authorities apprehended Labrecque through dozens of investigative efforts that spanned multiple states.

Federal, state and local departments were all in close collaboration for the efforts.

'After attempts to locate and apprehend Labrecque were unsuccessful, local police requested assistance from the US Marshals,' whose investigation led them to the campsite.

He was found in a wooded area off of Prospect Street in Woodstock, north of Route 197, the Franklin Observer reported.

Pictures of the site show a tent in the middle of a heavily wooded area where it is believed Labrecque camped out for months while attempting to hide from authorities.

The US Marshals Service noted that Labrecque had allegedly been hiding out in the remote campsite for months

'Despite his extraordinary efforts to elude capture, the apprehension of Mr. Labrecque demonstrates the tenacity of the USMS Violent Fugitive Task Force and the incredible value our law enforcement partnerships have in fulfilling our mutual mission of improving the safety of the communities we serve,' Matthew Duffy, the Connecticut Supervisory Deputy, said in a press release.

One of Labrecque's four sons, who is also named Steven, died suddenly at 8 months old in 2006, according to an obituary.

It remains unclear whether the tragic death led to any further investigation.
