Pensioner left with broken ribs and leg after sex attack

An elderly pensioner remains in hospital after suffering several broken ribs and a broken leg in a sex attack by a thug who also stole £20,000 worth of jewellery.

The woman, who is in her 70s, was followed home after getting off a bus in Finchley, north London, at around 4.30am on Friday, September 13, police said. 

An unknown man pushed her into a doorway on Regents Park Road and sexually assaulted her, before stealing her bank cards and running off with roughly £20,000 worth of jewellery. 

Metropolitan Police has launched a CCTV appeal as part of its investigation into the attack. The man pictured on the image has dark hair, a beard and glasses. 

PC Harry Morrice, from the local investigations team, said: 'This was an extremely distressing incident which has left an elderly woman in hospital, having suffered serious injuries.

'We are committed to finding the perpetrator and continue to carry out a number of enquiries in order to hold those responsible to account.

'We are now releasing an image of a man we would like to identify and are asking for assistance from the public. 

'We are also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the robbery, or a man running off. 

Police have launched a CCTV appeal as part of its investigation into the attack
