Experts say that it is important to update to the latest software as soon as possible to ensure you are protected against cybercriminals

Jake Moore, global cybersecurity advisor for ESET, told MailOnline: 'It is vital that people make sure their devices auto-update to the latest operating system.

'Out-of-date operating systems can be left vulnerable to attack as criminals can then use these located exploits to target people's data on their phones.'

Mr Moore points out that iOS 18 also includes some big security upgrades such as a new standalone Passwords app.

'The Passwords app is a much simpler way to create and manage all your passwords, passkeys, verification codes and more,' says Mr Moore.

'It's all end-to-end encrypted and you can easily create groups and share passwords with those who need access too.'

iPadOS 18.0.1 also makes iOS 18 available for the iPad for the first time since the update was pulled due to a rare glitch which irreversibly crashed some M4 iPad Pros
