Man charged with murder after fight with travel agent in Westmoreland

A Westmoreland man has been charged with murder after he allegedly used a machete to chop a woman, reportedly intoxicated, who was hitting his car with stones outside his home on Sunday.

He is Dwayne Anglin, 42, of Truro district in the western parish, the police said Wednesday. 

The deceased is 29-year-old travel agent Sydonia Martin, who was from the same community.

The police report that the incident took place about 3:30 a.m., when Martin, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, was spotted outside Anglin's gate, hitting his car with stones.

Anglin allegedly armed himself with a machete, chased and held Martin along the roadway, where an argument broke out.

The confrontation escalated into a fight and Anglin allegedly used the machete to chop Martin in the head.

Anglin fled the scene, while Martin was taken to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Anglin subsequently surrendered to police.
