Two minors held for hitting, dragging two traffic cops on car after being stopped
by Staff Reporter · The PioneerThe Delhi Police apprehended two minors for hitting and dragging two Delhi traffic police personnel after they tried to stop their Maruti Fronx car for jumping the signal while on duty in southwest Delhi’s Kishangarh area.
According to the police on Monday, action under the Motor Vehicle Act against car owner is being taken. The incident took place on Saturday evening at the Ber Sarai traffic signal near Vedant Deshika Marg. The traffic police personnel sustained injuries after they were dragged on the bonnet for about 20 metres "with the intention to kill", according to police.
A senior police officer said, "After the incident, different teams were formed to identify the accused. They nabbed two juveniles and launched further investigations.”
According to statements of Assistant Sub-Inspector Pramod and Head Constable Sailesh, they were conducting routine checks for traffic violations when the latter signalled a car to stop. The driver initially complied but then attempted to flee, dragging the two policemen on the car's bonnet for approximately 20 metres before speeding away.
Two videos of the incident, which went viral online, show the officers holding onto the bonnet while they were being dragged. After one of them falls to the ground, the car driver tries to hit him.
"Both of them received minor injuries in the accident. A crime and forensic team inspected the area where the incident occurred,” another police officer said, adding that as per the statement given by the officers, the alleged car driver had created obstruction in the official duty and had further tried to kill the above police officials by dragging them on his car for over 20 meters.
“A case under attempt to murder and obstruction in discharge of official duty and charges for endangering the lives of public has been registered," said the officer.
